Bethany for Children & Families names RTQC Volunteers as Community Service Group of the Year

Rebuilding Together Quad Cities is thrilled to have volunteers like its John Deere Retirees Group. For almost two decades, this group of volunteers has volunteered for RTQC workday projects. Although most in the group started volunteering for RTQC as active John Deere IT employees, they have been volunteering for so long that several have retired from John Deere. In fact, the group is now majority retirees so we've started referring to them as the John Deere Retiree Group.

Today, there are approximately 30 people in this group of volunteers. Although more than half are now retired from John Deere, fortunately, they haven't retired from giving back to their community! Not only is this group always there for RTQC for our work days, they typically get assigned the harder projects because they not only have the skills to tackle some pretty jobs, they have the passion for our mission. Several of the members have also served as RTQC Directors, Officers, and Task Force volunteers.

In November 2015, this group was humbled to be nominated for and selected to receive Bethany for Children & Families' 2015 Community Service Group of the Year. Shawn Duster, an active John Deere employee who has served as House Captain for this group for the last three years and who is in his third year as President of RTQC, accepted the award on the group's behalf. Several members of the group were also in attendance.

Rod Jennings, RTQC Executive Director, introduced the group at the awards ceremony. During his introduction of the group, Rod shared that has been the Executive Director at several non-profits and this group does something that he has never encountered before...

"If this group hasn't heard from me for a while, they call to see how they can help. This never happens!"

Thank you for always being there for RTQC and all that you to improve the safety and health of homes in the Quad Cities and for helping to transform the Quad Cities area community in the process!

RTQC also wishes to thank Bethany for Children & Families for recognizing this group of QC Heroes!
